Here are some of our favorite recommendations for things to do, places to go, and what to eat in Napa and Sonoma:
View Dan & Jessica's Napa Food & Wine List in a larger map.
Wineries
- Arrowood Vineyards: There is no better place to taste wine than the balcony at Arrowood. Call ahead to reserve an outside table. All of Arrowood's wines are great, but their dessert wines are outrageous.
- Gundlach Bundschu: Gundlach offers good, relatively inexpensive wines and a fun tasting room.
- Copain Wine Cellars: Stunning views and great wines at this Healdsburg winery. It's off the beaten path, but well worth it. The "Tous Ensemble" label wines are a great bargain.
- Mumm Napa: Excellent views and a glass of bubbly. Mumm gets crowded, so come early to start the day off right.
- Round Pond Estate: Round Pond offers a great wine tasting with a food pairing on their large balcony. They also make lovely olive oils and vinegars. By appointment only.
- Tres Sabores: One of the most intimate tasting experiences you can find. Taste good, stuastainably-produced wines at a picnic table in the vineyard with the winemaker, her dogs and goats. By appointment only.
- Whetstone Wine Cellars: After trying these great wines at local restaurants, we tasted the wine with Mr. Whetstone himself before the tasting room opened. Really glad there is a tasting room now so you can try his excellent wines without him.
- Duckhorn Wine Company: One of our favorite tasting rooms, with table service for wine tasting. Duckhorn is elegant and relaxing at the same time, and has great wines. By appointment only.
- Cakebread Cellars: Cakebread is a great place to learn about and taste wine. Known for uniquely informative tasting sessions. By appointment only.
- Chateau Montelena Winery: Featured in the movie Bottleshock, Chateau Montelena is home of the '73 Chardonnay that beat French wines in a blind tasting. The current Chardonnay still lives up to the hype, even though you'll pay a few bucks extra for the schtick.
Restaurants
- ad hoc: ad hoc is our favorite restaurant anywhere. The food is excellent and the staff are always friendly. If you don't have plans the morning of our wedding, Sunday brunch at ad hoc is your best option in the area.
- Bottega: Bottega is without a doubt the best new restaurant we've been to in the last year, and likely one of the best in the Bay Area. The food, wine, and service are all excellent.
- Bouchon Bakery: Mmmmmm. Pretty much some of the best baked goods around. It's very hard not to say "one of each please." Nutter butter, carmel corn, macaroons...
- the girl & the fig: Nice spot in Sonoma town square for a great meal or a drink in the cozy lounge area.
- Taylor's Automatic Refresher: Best burgers in Napa. The sweet potato fries are a must-have.
- Oxbow Public Market: Great foodie destination with shops and restaurants. Our favorites include Three Twins Ice Cream, Roli Roti rotisserie chicken, and another outpost of Taylor's.
Shopping
Here are some of our favorite recommendations for things to do, places to go, and what to eat in San Francisco:
The Ferry Building
The Ferry Building Marketplace at the end of Market St. is, without a doubt, our absolute favorite place to go in San Francisco. It's where we went on our second date. It's where Dan proposed. And it's where you'll find the best Saturday morning brunch in town. If you're spending time in San Francisco the day before our wedding or the weekend after, go to the Ferry Building on Saturday morning and indulge.
